Slaton

A. J. Zapata, beloved son, brother, father, and friend, passed away on June 26, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He was born on January 16, 1991, in Lubbock, Texas to Arthur Zapata Sr. and Alice Rodriguez.  He graduated from Slaton High School in 2009, and later went to work as a Q.C. for Xylem Water Solutions. 

A. J. had a zest for life and pursued a variety of hobbies and interests with great enthusiasm. He found joy in the calming waters while fishing, appreciated the thrill of watching fighting roosters compete, and enjoyed friendly competitions around the pool table. A true grill master, cook-outs were never complete without his presence. Above all else, he valued spending quality time with his family and treasured each moment shared together.

Those who knew A. J. understood that family was at the center of his world. He had an unbreakable bond with his father, who lovingly guided him throughout his life and was eager to reunite with him in heaven. His sisters Clarissa Zapata, Aryanna Zapata, and Justyne Zapata were not just siblings but lifelong friends who shared endless laughs and created countless memories together.

His memory will forever be cherished by his mother, Alice Rodriguez; his two children, Audri Zapata, Zaiden Zapata and their mother Amanda Pena; three sisters, Clarissa Zapata, Aryanna Zapata, Justyne Zapata; his girlfriend, Diana Portillo; his grandparents, Seferina Zapata, David and Cecilia Rodriguez.

He is preceded in death by his father, Arthur Zapata Sr.; his grandfather, Domingo Zapata. 

A. J.'s impact was far-reaching, and his absence will be felt by all who knew him. In honor of his life, a visitation will be held on July 9, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in The Chapel of Broadway Funeral Directors. Funeral mass is scheduled for July 10, 2023, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church at 10:00 AM, with Father Martin Pina officiating.  All arrangements were made under the direction of Broadway Funeral Directors.
