Avelina Cruz

Avelina Cruz, 83, passed away peacefully at Covenant Medical Center on April 15, 2025, at 6:27 pm. She was born on February 13, 1942, in Adjuntas del Refugio, Zacatecas, Mexico, to Fermin Serna and Guadalupe Bueno. On September 16, 1962, she married the love of her life Samuel Herrera Cruz in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico. They spent 59 wonderful years together. Avelina was a housewife that devoted her life to her family. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Brownfield, Texas. Avelina enjoyed cooking and feeding her children and grandchildren their favorite meals. She was a master at crocheting and embordering; but her biggest joy was participating in the lives of her grandchildren by attending sporting and dancing events. She will always be remembered by her loved ones for the love, encouragement and support she provided throughout her life. Her friends will miss her generous heart and love for taking care of those in need.

She is survived by her children; Guadalupe (Dennis) Rocha, Senon(Corina) Cruz, Samuel (Rebecca) Cruz, Jr, and Patricia(Martin) Salazar; Her grandchildren, Aaron Rocha, Brianna (R.J. Kossman) Rocha, Joshua (Brittney Smith) Rocha, Marcus Cruz, Brennan Cruz, Kristopher (Briana) Salazar, Kassandra Salazar  (Nathan Martinez), Nikolas Salazar; great grandchildren, Amaya and Rylee Salazar, Bryn and Breck Rocha, and Zade Martinez.

She is preceded in death by her husband, and seven siblings.

Viewing for Mrs. Cruz will be held in The Chapel of Broadway Funeral Directors Chapel on Monday, April 21, 2025, from 3:00pm to 7:00 pm followed by a rosary starting at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 10:00 in The Chapel of Broadway Funeral Directors Chapel with Father Peter D'souza officiating. All arrangements were made under the direction of Broadway Funeral Directors.
