Genie Mary Rodriguez, beloved mother, grandmother, great and great great grandmother, passed away on January 28, 2024, in North Richland Hills, TX. She was born on July 25, 1941, in her cherished hometown of Lubbock, TX. She married the love of her life Delfino Rodriguez in Portales, NM on October 21, 1956, and worked as homemaker. Throughout her life, Genie had countless interests and hobbies. She found solace in reading and enjoyed challenging herself with crossword puzzles. Thrift shopping was one of her favorite pastimes as she loved finding unique treasures that held stories of their own. Watching movies provided her with entertainment and relaxation. Additionally, she had a fondness for chewing gum, and was known by making the best tortillas around. Genie's passion also extended to writing, as she embarked on the creation of her very own autobiography, capturing the memories and experiences that shaped her extraordinary journey.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Delfino Rodriguez Sr., whose memory she carried in her heart each day and she also mourned the loss of her brother Leon Aguilar.
She is survived by three sons: Delfino Rodriguez Jr. and his wife Mary, Dore Rodriguez, Rudy Rodriguez; three daughters: Lolly Alexander and her husband Edward; Margie Wesley and her husband Mark; Dora Ybarra and her husband Frank; one brother: Alvaro Aguilar; two sisters: Janie Arias and Cruz Earl. Genie's legacy carries on through her forty grandchildren, fifty-five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Her love and wisdom will continue to guide them through their lives as she was a devoted grandmother who adored all of her grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to attend the services honoring Genie's life. The viewing will take place from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, Friday, February 2, 2024, at Broadway Funeral Directors with a prayer service starting at 6:00 PM.
The celebration of Genie's life will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Victory Christian Center, situated at 501 34th St, with Pastor Tito Ortega officiating. Burial will follow in The City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Broadway Funeral Directors.
