Genoveva Hernandez

December 22, 1925 — January 29, 2022

Genoveva V. Hernandez, 96 of Lubbock passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022. Visitation will be Monday, January 31, 2022, at Broadway Funeral Directors Chapel (Lubbock) from 1:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m., with a rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m.. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Joseph Thanavelil officiating. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Broadway Funeral Directors.

Genoveva was born December 22, 1925, in Devine, Texas to the late Federico Valdez and Maria Segovia.  She married the late Pedro S. Hernandez on May 14, 1942, in Mathis, Texas.  He preceded her in 2004.  She was a hard worker all her life whether it was in the fields picking cotton, onions, or cleaning houses just to name a few.   She was a devoted Catholic, a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church for numerous years and was very involved in the church.  She was a Cursillista, a Guadalupana and minister of communion.  Genoveva also enjoyed crocheting, sewing, playing bingo, loved music and was a great cook. Genoveva's greatest passion however was her family and babysitting her grandchildren. They will always cherish the love she had for them and the memories they have with her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son Pedro Hernandez Jr., a daughter Guadalupe Hernandez, grandsons Danny Castilla and Conrad Martinez Jr.

Those left to cherish her memory are her five sons; Ricardo Hernandez of Lubbock, Joe and wife Mary Hernandez of Lubbock, Arnulfo and wife Rebecca Hernandez of Lubbock, Albert and wife Linda Hernandez of Lubbock, and Arturo Hernandez of Lubbock; four daughters; Alice and husband Macy of Milton Center, Ohio, Rosario and husband Jimmy Guerrero of Lubbock, Mary and husband Jose Martinez of Lubbock, and Beatrice and husband Adam Ramirez of Lubbock; one sister Guadalupe Sosa of Amarillo; thirty two grandchildren; fifty great grandchildren; nineteen great great grandchildren.
