Jessica Leigh Hernandez, a beloved daughter, fiancé, mother, sister, and grandmother, was born on December 23, 1974, in Lubbock, Texas to Abel and Fannie Hernandez. She left this world on February 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Jessica was a vibrant spirit; known for her infectious laughter and the joy she brought to those around her.
Growing up in Lubbock, Jessica displayed a passion for sports and creativity that shone brightly throughout her life. She immersed herself in basketball during her high school years at Frenship High School and later graduated from Lubbock High School in 1992. Alongside her athletic endeavors, she often pretended to be a DJ, filling her surroundings with laughter and music. Jessica had a special gift for uplifting others, always finding ways to make people smile.
Beyond her talent on the court, Jessica cherished the simple joys in life. She had a deep love for cooking, taking pleasure in preparing meals that brought her family together. A thorough individual, she delighted in deep cleaning, ensuring that her home was a sanctuary for those she loved. Jessica was also fond of playing pool and dancing, activities that brought her immense joy and were often shared with her cherished family.
Family was the cornerstone of Jessica's life. She is survived by her father, Abel Hernandez, and his wife, Kathy; her fiancé, Jerry Torres of Lubbock; and her three sons, Michael Garza, Nathan Torres, and Ethan Torres, all of Lubbock. She also leaves behind her beloved daughters, Alexandria "Alex" Hernandez and her husband, Mason Luna, along with Jaci Garza and Anna Villesca, all of Lubbock, one brother, Sergio Rodriguez of Dallas; one sister, Marisa Curtis and husband John of Dallas. Jessica's legacy will live on through her seven grandchildren—Christian Garza, Masey Luna, Makenlee Luna, Mazi Luna, Johnathan Gloria, Addilynn Gloria, and Leo Villesca—who were the light of her life.
Jessica's heart was forever touched by the memory of her late mother, Fannie Rodriguez, and one son, Christian Garza, who preceded her in death. Their absence is a profound reminder of the bonds that endure beyond life's challenges.
