John "J.P." Shanks, a cherished husband, devoted son, and talented artist, was born on December 4, 1972, in Houston, Texas. He departed this world on February 20, 2025, leaving behind an indelible mark on the lives he touched. J.P.'s journey took him from the vibrant atmosphere of his birthplace to the warm community of Lubbock, where he made lifelong memories. He married Angela Gilbert on December 16, 1995, in Lubbock and together began a journey that would stand the test of time.

J.P. graduated from Big Spring High School in 1991, paving the way for his passion for the performing arts. He later earned his Bachelor's degree in Theatre from Texas Tech University in 2000, where he cultivated his love for acting. With a professional acting career that spanned many years, J.P. embodied characters with a natural flair, bringing stories to life and captivating audiences.

However, his talents did not stop at acting. J.P. transitioned into the culinary world, becoming a chef whose love for cooking was infectious. He relished the joy of barbecues, where friends and family gathered around delicious meals, sharing laughter and creating connections. A talented singer, J.P. often filled the air with music, which served as the backdrop for many fond memories shared with loved ones.

J.P. found great pride in his commitment to community and brotherhood, being an esteemed member of the Tannehill Masonic Lodge in Dallas, and he held the distinction of 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Master Mason.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Angela Shanks of Lubbock, and his loving parents, Donnie and Sharon Shanks, of Hillister, Texas.  His spirit is carried on through the cherished memories made with them and all the lives he impacted. He is preceded in death by his brother, Michael Shanks, who will be welcomed in heart and memory as they reunite.

A graveside service will be held on March 8, 2025, starting at 10:00 AM at the City of Lubbock Cemetery located in Lubbock, Texas. This day will serve as a heartfelt tribute to celebrate the life of J.P., a man whose legacy of love, creativity, and community will never be forgotten.
