Johnny "Polkas" Villegas

July 29, 1951 — December 12, 2024

New Deal

Johnny "Polkas" Villegas, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on December 12, 2024, in the place he called home, New Deal, Texas. He was born on July 29, 1951, in New Deal to Jose & Maxine Villegas, where he lived surrounded by the warmth of his family and community.

For over 30 years, Johnny was a businessman who opened and operated Polkas Gameroom. His business was not just a job; it was a haven where laughter and joy mingled with the sounds of games being played, a space where he could enjoy life with his family and friends while pursuing his passion. Johnny's entrepreneurial spirit reflected his vibrant personality, bringing light and connection to those around him. A passionate sports fan, Johnny held a special place in his heart for the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Tech Sports, and the Texas Rangers. He relished the moments spent watching games, often animatedly cheering with friends and family, making every game day an occasion to celebrate life and camaraderie.

Johnny was more than a businessman; he was a devoted family man. He is survived by his loving wife, Cecelia Villegas, whose companionship brought him indescribable joy throughout their years together. His legacy lives on through his children, daughters Mallory Parras and husband Mario, Mary Alice Villegas, and Vanessa Villegas all of whom reside in Lubbock; one son, Michael Mares and his wife Julie of Lubbock. Johnny’s heart was full of love for each of his ten grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

In addition to his immediate family, Johnny shared a special bond with his surviving sisters, Delia Gonzales of Lubbock and Nina Alvarez and husband Mike of San Antonio. Their ties further enriched his life, providing love and support that he deeply appreciated. He also had many nieces and nephews who he loved and two dogs Charlie and Lincoln who held his heart.

Johnny is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Jesse, Gilbert, and Jr. Villegas. Their memories will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew them, linking the past and present in a beautiful tapestry of family love.
