Jose Estrada, a beloved figure and cherished member of the Lubbock community, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on May 31, 1935, in Welder, Texas, to Felipe and Elena Estrada, Jose filled the lives of those around him with warmth, kindness, and an unwavering faith. He married Jesusa Trevino in 1960 in Slaton, Texas and worked as a truck driver for Lubbock Compress for many years.
He was a proud Catholic, deeply committed to his faith and community. Jose volunteered and sang in the choir at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, where his dedication to serving others shone brightly. His joyful spirit and love for music touched many hearts, fostering a sense of belonging for those fortunate enough to know him.
Jose's passions extended beyond his faith; he had a great love for his game roosters and enjoyed the simple pleasure of driving out in the countryside. However, nothing brought him more joy than the time spent with his family. His heart was full when surrounded by his four sons, Steve and Nellie Estrada of Lubbock, Oscar and Caroline Estrada of Arlington, James Estrada of Dallas, Antonio Estrada of Slaton, and his daughter, Angelita and Tim Leyba of Carlsbad, one sister, Dolores Estrada of Salton and a brother, Ernest Estrada of Slaton. Sharing moments with his seventeen grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren was a gift he cherished dearly, creating memories that will linger on in their hearts long after his passing.
Jose's legacy is also marked by the significant loss felt by those he left behind. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jesusa Estrada, whose memory will forever be intertwined with his; one son, Rafael Estrada; and four brothers, Augustine, David, Carlos, and Ralph. He also mourned the passing of two sisters, Virginia and Mary, and a granddaughter, Amanda Estrada. Each of their memories lives on within the family, as they gather to celebrate the life Jose led.
Family and friends are invited to honor his life at a Rosary on February 14, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in The Chapel of Broadway Funeral Directors. A Funeral Service celebrating his life will follow 10:00 am, Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with Deacon Joe Marin officiating. Burial will follow in Englewood Cemetery in Slaton under the direction of Broadway Funeral Directors.
Jose Estrada's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, faith, and cherished moments. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, family devotion, and an unwavering spirit that will continue to inspire those who had the honor of knowing him.
