Juan Tovar

March 18, 1934 — February 13, 2020

Rosary for Juan “Johnny” Tovar 85 of Lubbock will be on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at 7 PM at The Broadway Funeral Directors Chapel. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 17, 2020 at 10 AM at Our Lady of The Queens of The Apostles in New Deal with Father Bryan Wood officiating. Burial will be in The Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of The Broadway Funeral Directors.

Juan went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 13, 2020. He was born on March 18, 1934 in Rosebud, Texas to the late Refugio and Benita Tovar. He married Romana Blanco on October 7, 1958 in Lubbock. He retired from New Deal ISD after working for 23 years. He loved sports including the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and the Colorado Rockies. He enjoyed fishing but his passion was his grandchildren. He loved to watch them play all the sports they were active in.

Survivors include the love of his life Romana Tovar of Lubbock, a daughter Diane (Victor) Vargas of Lubbock, two grandchildren A.J. Gutierrez and Oscar Gutierrez both of Lubbock, a great grandchild Amariyia Gutierrez of Denver Colorado, two brothers Rufas (Fay) Tovar of Waco, Felix ( Angie) Tovar of Abernathy, four sisters, Martha Garcia of Minnesota, Andrea (Jesus) Ledesma of Abernathy, Neri (Ben) Garcia of Lake Ransom, and Lola Tello of Lubbock. A step grandson Khamani May of Colorado; a host of nieces, nephews and many god children.
