Lucy Gutierrez, beloved by many, passed away in Lubbock leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished friendships. Born on September 8, 1945, in Nixon, Texas to Samuel & Delfina Garza, Lucy's life was filled with joy, love and a deep connection to her family. Throughout her life, Lucy delighted in various hobbies such as traveling, working on puzzles, tending to her garden, hunting for treasures at garage sales and flea markets. However, nothing brought her more happiness than spending time with her loved ones, especially her children and grandchildren.
On June 28, 2024, Lucy departed from this world in Lubbock, surrounded by the love of her family. She is now reunited with her husband, Joe Cantu; two sisters Inez Nunez and Janie Lovato; two brothers, Joe Garza and Lencho Garza as well as a nephew she raised as her own, Armondo Cantu who preceded her in death.
Lucy's memory will forever be cherished by her surviving family members including three sons - Raul Gutierrez of Lubbock, Rudy Gutierrez of Lewisville, Michael Gutierrez of Austin: two daughters - Teresa Rodriguez (husband Brigido) and Linda Gutierrez (husband Oscar Davila), all residing in Lubbock. Her ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren will always hold a special place in their hearts for their dear grandmother. Additionally, she is survived by her niece whom she raised as her own, Vicky Herrera (husband Tino), and her sister Frances Lozano of Greenville, TX.
Services for Mrs. Gutierrez will be 10:00 am Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with Father Rudy Crasta officiating. Burial will follow in the Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Broadway Funeral Directors. A rosary will be held 7:00 pm Tuesday, July 2, 2024, in The Chapel of Broadway Funeral Directors with visitation starting at 10:00 am.
As we mourn the loss of Lucy Gutierrez, let us also celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the profound impact she had on all those who were fortunate enough to know her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
