On the afternoon of Sunday, June 2, 2024, Margarita went to be with our Lord. She was born February 20, 1931, in Goliad, Texas to the late Nicolas and Manuela Morales. At the age of eight Margarita's beloved Daddy passed away and due to her childhood situation, she had to go live with paternal grandparents. At ten years old and needing to find another place to live she was able to find work for room and board with two wonderful sisters doing household chores and errands, she earned a dime a week. Once she was a bit older, she cared for their mother, ran errands, cooking and cleaning while earning a dollar a week. On Sundays, which was her one day off she enjoyed walking to the theater with her friend to watch movies. It was there, at the age of fourteen that she met her knight in shining armor Alfredo Camargo. It was a mere two weeks later that he took her home to his parents' house on Mother's Day. Alfredo's parents took her under their roof and loved her like their own daughter, they married on May 20, 1945, in Mercedes, Texas and had a total of nine children. While the mouths to feed were many and the income was low Margarita's children never wanted for much because her family was rich in love. Margarita never shied away from hard work, whether it was picking fruit, vegetables or cotton to sweeping the cotton gin during the winter where her husband worked or cleaning houses for her Shallowater clients. Margarita loved to clean, she ultimately obtained a job at Shallowater ISD as a custodian, she was very dedicated and found great fulfillment in her work before retiring after twenty years. A devout member of St. Phillip Benizi Catholic Church in Shallowater, Texas, she actively participated as a Guadalupana and Cursillista until her death. Margarita took on many responsibilities of the church during her 55 plus years with St Phillips. She did this for the love of Jesus, she helped to clean the church, iron the linens for the altar, tending to the roses in the church flower beds and helping to cooking for the annual Jamica. Her hamburgers that were sold every year at the Jamica were famous and people came especially to buy those hamburgers. After her beloved husband died, she inherited and held the key that welcomed others into this sacred space.
In her free time, Margarita enjoyed watching television shows like Caso Cerado, American Pickers, her favorite news caster David Muir and in her younger years wrestling - particularly yelling and rooting for her favorite wrestler Ricky Romero. She loved to watch her grandchildren play baseball and never missed any of their games. When the weather was good, she tried to walk a mile a day. She was also an avid Yankees Baseball Team fan, which she affectionately referred to as her "Jyankees." Margarita was literally in tears when they lost the world series. She also loved to work in her flower garden, mow her yard and clean. However, above all else, her greatest joy came from spending quality time with her family. Whether it was through cooking a meal for them or simply just having them around her, Margarita greatly cherished these moments. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
Margarita is preceded in death by her parents Nicolas and Manuela Morales; husband Alfredo Camargo Sr.; sons Rolando Camargo and Daniel Camargo; siblings Ciriaco Morales, Juanita Morales, and Lili M. Gonzales.
She is also survived by a large and loving family including children Maria Oralia Delgado (Luis Sr.) of El Paso, Alfredo Camargo Jr. (Mary) of San Antonio, Maria Dalia Sosa (Juan) of Amarillo, San Juanita Gonzales (Edward Diaz) of Lubbock, Margarita Martinez (Edward) of Kyle, David Camargo of Shallowater, Anita Camargo (Gilbert Blanco) of Shallowater, Josie McCalley of Amarillo and Gloria Camargo of Lubbock; twenty-one grandchildren; forty-eight great-grandchildren; and twenty-one great-great-grandchildren.
