Margie was born to Byron and Laura Talkmitt on January 12, 1943, in Slaton, Texas. She spent most of her childhood and teenage years growing up with her four siblings on a farm in Wilson, Texas. As a young adult Margie moved to Lubbock, Texas where she worked at Linton Industries building aircraft control consoles. It was in 1965 that she met Charlie Bates whom she married on February 19, 1966, at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Together they raised two daughters Deanne and Julie. She was a beloved wife for 28 years until the passing of her husband in 1994 and spent the next 27 years as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Margie loved and trusted the Lord her entire life. She was a devoted member of Shepherd of The Plains Evangelical Lutheran Church for over 45 years. As her illness progressed, attending church services became more difficult. She and her family are incredibly thankful for the church family that prayed and cared for her during those difficult times. A special thank you to Pastor Jeremy Cares for the home visits, the singing, the devotions and the prayers provided.
Margie is preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Bates on December 13, 1994; her parents, Byron and Laura Talkmitt and her brother Nelson Talkmitt.
She is survived by her children Deanne and Charles Crumpley of Frisco Texas, Julie and Paul Stolfo of Lubbock: six grandchildren, Paul, Hunter, Charlee, Logan, Tanner and Taylor, and three great grandchildren, Ryder, Skylar and Judah. Survivors also include her two sisters, Charlene Mahone of Odessa, Linda Sumruld of May, TX; one brother, Gerald Talkmitt of Lubbock.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Roy Law, Bryan Sumruld, Michael Talkmitt, Devin Talkmitt and grandsons Paul Stolfo and Tanner Stolfo.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Shepherd of the Plains Evangelical Lutheran Church.
