Mary Margaret King, a beacon of love and resilience, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 67. Born on October 20, 1957, in Green County, Missouri, to Lee V Slaughter and Mary J. Brooks. Mary’s life was characterized by her unwavering dedication and remarkable spirit.

From a young age, Mary exemplified hard work and loyalty, starting her journey as a poultry farmer in Salisbury, Maryland, at just 16. Her industrious nature not only supported her but also laid the groundwork for a nurturing family life. She married in Delaware, Maryland, and welcomed into the world, two beloved children, a son, Michael Willard Morse, and a daughter, Bonnie Sue Morse, who would become her pride and joy. A devoted mother, Mary poured her heart into raising her family while also being a caring daughter to her mother and adopted dad, George Chesser.

In pursuit of new beginnings, Mary remarried and was blessed with another daughter, Mary Castro. Her journey took a significant turn in 1989 when she embraced a fresh chapter of her life as she became a Texan. Setting down roots in Lubbock and Levelland, Texas, Mary became a familiar face wherever she went, dedicating herself to her work in retail and hospitality. As a manager at Dollar Tree, she earned the respect and affection of her colleagues and customers alike. After years of hard work, she retired at the age of 62, having built a legacy of kindness and commitment.

Mary’s luminous spirit shone brightly, revealing her playful heart and love for life. She cherished her family, creating warm memories that will endure beyond her years. An advocate for animals, Mary devoted time to caring for those in need, embodying compassion in every aspect of her life.

As a devoted Christian, Mary’s proudest accomplishment was serving the Lord faithfully from the day she was first saved. This deep faith illuminated her path and guided her actions, bringing comfort and strength to those around her.

She is survived by her son, Michael Willard Morse, one daughter, Mary Ann Castro and husband Matthew Scott Castro. The love she radiated is carried on through her grandchildren, Heather Morse, Dylan Campbell, Haley Campbell and husband Harold, Quentin Castro and wife Kenzie, Addison Castro. Her legacy of love also extends to her great-grandchildren: Anastasia (12), Haven (8), Gabriel (6), Addalyn (6), Lakelynn (4), Coleman (2), and Kayson (1).

Mary was preceded in death by her dad, mom, adopted dad, and her beloved daughter, Bonnie Sue Morse. The impact of her life will forever be held close by all who had the fortune of knowing her, including her cherished family friends, Brenda and Jean Brooks.

Though Mary Margaret King has left this earthly realm, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift those who loved her. Her life was full of warmth, laughter, and unwavering devotion—a true testament to the beauty of a life well-lived.
