Paula Cortez

Paula Cortez, 69 was born on March 2, 1951 in Hondo, Texas to Sylvester & Nona Gutierrez.  She married Ernest Luna Cortez on November 22, 1968 in Floydada and was a home maker.  Paula enjoyed being outside gardening and was passionate about her faith. She was a faithful member of Urbana Baptist Church and always made sure that her family and grandchildren knew the gospel as she loved them dearly.

On the evening of December 1, 2020, Paula Cortez was called from this earth and was placed in the arms of her loving savior.  Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Ernest Cortez Jr., Sammy Cortez both of Lubbock; a daughter, Becky Cortez Calderon of Lubbock; five brothers, Franky Gutierrez of Lubbock, Juan Gutierrez of Amarillo, Robert Gutierrez of Abilene,  Leonard Gutierrez of El Paso, Greg Gutierrez of Lubbock; four sisters, Sylvia Rodriguez of Lockney, Victoria Ruiz, Blanca Bennett both of Amarillo, Bertha Salazar of San Antonio; thirteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Luna Cortez;  two sons, Armando Cortez, Adolfo Cortez; a brother, Henry Gutierrez; four sisters, Brenda Martinez, Alicia Rodriguez, Lydia Gonzales, Helen Gutierrez.

Services for Mrs. Cortez will be 6:00 pm Sunday, December 6, 2020 in The Chapel of Broadway Funeral Directors with Pastor Juan Calderon officiating.  Visitation will begin at 4:00pm.  All arrangements were made under the direction of Broadway Funeral Directors.
