Shirley Marie Woolam, devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas. Born on February 18, 1938, to Clarence & Mary Hobgood in Sulphur Springs, Texas, Shirley graced the lives of many with her warm personality and unwavering kindness.
Shortly after graduating high school, Shirley married Virgil Royce Woolam in 1956. This journey would almost last as long as her career as a hairdresser. Her nimble fingers brought joy and confidence to countless clients, helping them look their best while sharing stories and laughter. She was never one to meet a stranger; her genuine interest in people and their lives allowed her to form deep connections and friendships throughout her career and beyond.
Beyond her professional life, Shirley was a remarkable cook and baker, known for her delicious meals that brought family and friends together. Her love for crocheting was another expression of her nurturing spirit, creating beautiful pieces that were cherished by those who received them.
Nothing brought Shirley more joy than spending time with her family and grandchildren, filling every moment with love and laughter. She is survived by her daughter, Marietta Decker and husband Wade of Lubbock; three brothers, Wesley Hobgood of Lubbock, Clovis Hobgood of Oklahoma, and Claude Hobgood of Arizona; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Each of these loved ones carries a piece of her spirit, reflecting the warmth and love she consistently offered.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Royce Woolam, one brother, Dwayne Hobgood and two sisters, Anita Baisden and Margaret Castle. Although she leaves behind a profound legacy of love, her presence will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service to honor Shirley's life will be held on December 21, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at Broadway Funeral Directors with Pastor Elias Garcia officiating. This gathering of friends and family will come together to celebrate the life of this extraordinary woman, whose memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
