Virginia Montelongo

Virginia Alonzo Montelongo, 96, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2019 in Lubbock.  Services for Mrs. Montelongo will be 10:00 am Friday, July 5, 2019 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Martin Pina officiating. Burial will follow in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Broadway Funeral Directors.  A rosary will be held 7:00 pm Thursday evening at Broadway Funeral Directors.

Virginia was born October 6, 1922 in Rosebud, Texas to Doroteo & Natividad Alonzo. She married Santiago Montelongo in May of 1948 and worked for the Howard Alford farms in several areas for many years.  She then worked for Circle H from the late 60’s to early 70’s and finally Cal-Maine Eggs before retiring. She enjoyed cooking, making fresh cheese and was known for her famous salsa (although you had to bring your own jar). She also enjoyed embroidering, working outdoors in her vegetable garden and most of all; she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by four sons & daughters-in-law, Ramon & Janie Montelongo, Alberto Montelongo, Alfredo Montelongo all of Lubbock, Daniel & Janie Montelongo of Tahoka; one daughter, Anna Maria Montelongo of Lubbock; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Santiago Montelongo (January,1974); a son, Guadalupe Montelongo; a daughter, Rosa Maria Motsenbocker; seven brothers, Anastacio Alfaro, Manuel Alonzo Sr., Constancio Alonzo Sr., Apolinar Alonzo, Juan Alonzo, Lalo Alonzo, Delfino Alonzo; three sisters, Dominga Alfaro, Dominga Rangel, Juanita Lara.
