Vivian Duran

October 28, 1926 — December 4, 2024

San Antonio

Vivian Duran, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 98. Born on October 28, 1926, in Hale Center, Texas, to Andres & Bernabe Cadena, Vivian lived a rich life filled with love, and cherished memories.

For many years, she was a dedicated presser at Gristy's Cleaners, where her diligence and commitment to her work mirrored the strength she exhibited in her family life. Vivian's spirit was as vibrant as her cooking; known for her delicious tamales, chicken mole, and enchiladas, she brought comfort and joy to countless family gatherings. Her cooking was not just about nourishment but a way to bring her family closer together, and many will fondly remember the warmth of her kitchen.

Vivian had a zest for life that included an incredible passion for dancing and a keen interest in bingo, activities that she enjoyed with her family and friends. The laughter and joy she brought into the lives of all who knew her will be sorely missed.

Vivian’s faith was shown through her dedication to her church as she served diligently as a guadalupana at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Abernathy before leaving to live in San Antonio.

She leaves behind a loving family who will carry on her legacy. She is survived by her three sons, Ralph and Linda Duran of Fort Worth, Tommy and Olga Duran of California, and Rudy and Dolores Duran of San Antonio; her two daughters, Kathy Esquibel and Beatrice Naranjo, both of San Antonio; along with her sister, Anita Lipps of California. Vivian was a proud grandmother to ten grandchildren and a great-grandmother to three great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored and cherished deeply.

Vivian is preceded in death by her husband, R.M. Duran, who she loved with all her heart. She is also preceded by two beloved grandchildren, Alex and Tony Duran; her son-in-law, Roy Esquibel; and her siblings, Joe Cadena, T. F. Cadena, Paul Cadena, Lupe Chavez, and Steve Cadena.

A visitation to honor Vivian’s memory will take place on December 13, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM at Broadway Funeral Directors in Lubbock, Texas. A rosary will follow that same evening at 7:00 PM. Her life will be celebrated with a Mass at 10:00am Saturday, December 14, 2024 at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Abernathy, Texas with Father Brian Wood officiating.

As we remember Vivian Duran, we celebrate a life filled with love, family, and a legacy of cherished memories that will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be profoundly missed but lovingly remembered.
